Things I Wish I Knew Before My Boudoir Photoshoot

A boudoir photoshoot isn’t a typical photoshoot—it’s so much more. It’s not just about taking pictures. It’s an experience that’s meant to be personal, transformative, and entirely yours. Over the years, I’ve done a lot of boudoir photoshoots in Jacksonville and I’ve learned so much about what makes a boudoir photoshoot special and how you can truly make the most out of it. Here are some things I make sure all of the women know before their first boudoir shoot.

Keep an Open Mind

A boudoir shoot is an intimate experience designed to celebrate you. It’s not a traditional photoshoot where you just pose and smile for the camera. It’s about embracing your vulnerability in a safe, respectful space. Approach your session with an open mind. It’s a chance to see yourself differently and appreciate your unique beauty in a way you may have never imagined. When you allow yourself to feel comfortable, your mindset can shift, and that’s when the magic happens. A boudoir shoot can be incredibly transformative if you let it be.

If boudoir photography is something you’ve been wanting to do but you’re worried about privacy or feel nervous about the images being shared, rest assured that your comfort is our priority. We will never share your photos without your permission. This can be a completely private experience that’s all for you.

It’s All in the Details

There’s more preparation involved in a boudoir shoot than just picking out a couple outfits. To make the most of your experience and feel your absolute best, here are some tips:

  • Waxing or Shaving: If you plan to wax, do it a few days before your session to give your skin time to settle.
  • Eat Before Your Session: Start your day with a nutritious meal to keep your energy up throughout the shoot.
  • Hydrate: Hydration is key! Make sure to drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your shoot.
  • Get a Good Night’s Sleep: Rest up! A full night of sleep will leave you looking and feeling refreshed.

These small steps can make a huge difference in your experience and leave you feeling confident and glowing.

Step Outside Your Comfort Zone for a Boudoir Photoshoot

Is there a piece of lingerie you’ve been eyeing? Or a silky robe that’s a bit more revealing than what you normally wear? If there’s ever a time for those items, it’s a boudoir photoshoot! And guess what…lingerie isn’t your only option! This is your session, and you get to decide how you want to express yourself. Maybe that’s in a cozy sweater, a favorite pair of jeans, or nothing but a silk sheet. You could even bring out your playful side with nerdy glasses or a chic blazer. The possibilities are truly endless, and we’re here to help you explore them.

That’s why I do a planning call before every shoot. I want to get to know your vision, your style, and what makes you feel beautiful. Whether you want to try something outside your comfort zone or keep it simple, this is your time to experiment and splurge on yourself.

A Boudoir Photoshoot Should Be For YOU

Maybe you want to do a photoshoot for a wedding gift for your partner. Or maybe you’re getting ready to bring a new baby into this world. It’s easy to feel like you need a reason or an excuse to book a boudoir photoshoot. But at the end of the day, this experience is truly for YOU.

As women, we spend so much time serving others—our families, our careers, our communities—that we rarely take a moment to celebrate who we are right now, in this season. A boudoir photoshoot is a permission slip to do just that. To be present and to appreciate every curve, every mark, every part of you.

So, give yourself that permission. Embrace the opportunity to see yourself in a new light. Celebrate the strong, beautiful, and incredible woman you are. And most importantly, have fun with it!
If you’ve been thinking about a boudoir photoshoot but aren’t sure if it’s right for you, just remember that it’s your experience and it can be as bold, soft, playful, or empowering as you want it to be. Reach out and let’s create a session that’s all about YOU.
