The key to incredible newborn portraits? A swaddle. One that is easy to use, holds that baby tight and photographs well. I have been photographing babies for years and have worked with hundreds of swaddles in that time. There are a couple of brands that make for the best swaddles for your newborn session. My favorite swaddles

These swaddles are incredibly soft and they’re lighter than the typical muslin swaddle. These are great options for summer sessions and you will likely find your little one snuggling with them for many years to come.

Why is the swaddle so important?
Just like you may use a swaddle to help your baby rest well, it will encourage the baby to sleep and be relaxed during their session. Swaddles are also an easy way to “style” babies without constricting clothes that leave marks on their very sensitive skin.
I always use and recommend solid, neutral-colored swaddles for babies and neutral colors for parents. Neutrals and earth tones photograph best and allow the baby to be the center of the story without loud colors or patterns distracting from the focus. If you have a swaddle or outfit that you really want as part of the session then we can make an exception for sentimental items.
