I am so incredibly excited to announce that I am attending for the first time Creative at Heart as an educator! It has been a goal of mine for the last couple of years to be an educator/speaker at a conference and when Kat and I met it was only a couple of days later that she invited me to be a panelist for Round 10 of the Creative at Heart conference.
How it Happened
I had been following Kat for a while when I got to meet her virtually through a Rising Tide chapter meeting she presented at. I participated in the conversation throughout the meeting and Kat loved the energy I brought. Kat is an incredibly business savvy and driven woman with a great smile and contagious attitude. She is 100% my kind of person and I thought I was going to bust when she invited me!
When I started Pompy Portraits in 2017 I had no idea where it would take me. Over the last few months as I have shifted into doing what I love and leaning into all of the scary changes that come with that I have learned so much about myself. I have been given this incredible opportunity to have a business that empowers women in front of my camera and allows me to inspire women outside of photoshoots.
Creative at Heart is a conference that I’ve always wanted to attend and I could not be more excited that it will be where the educator side of my brand debuts. Kat has done an incredible job of creating a community and conference that really allows business owners the opportunity to connect and grow together in just three days.
The Importance of Education
One of the key components of a successful business is education. Now, I’m not talking about a college degree or a certain certification or anything nearly as “official” as that. What I mean are the myriad of mentorships, courses, programs, and internships available to you as a photographer. Education is something that you will need to invest in year after year in order to continue to grow.
There is always something new to learn and learning from those who are where you want to be or doing what you want to be doing is the best place to start. Follow photographers you admire and see if they have resources you can use to grow your own business. Join their email list, download their freebies, join their Facebook group, show up where they are and see what they’re doing to see their success.
It doesn’t matter if you have been a photographer for six months or six years – we can all learn something from one another. Figure out where your weaknesses lie and hone those skills until you can outsource them. Then, once those skills are outsourced focus on education that will improve your strengths so you can become the expert in those services.
